Tuia 250 - Museum object stories told through stop motion

Beyonce and Henning chose to show the flag being raised in New Zealand when Captain Cook arrived.

Paul and Sebastian also chose the flag

Tuia 250 - Interview with the characters

For tuhituhi (writing) we have been writing scripts for a television news item. Our news reporters interviewed characters from the Tuia 250 story to get each person's perspective on what happened when Māori and Pakeha first crossed paths. This is Daya interviewing Otirinui (Mariko) about what happened on the day he got shot by a member of Captain Cook's crew. It has been interesting to think about the different perspectives of what happened on that day, and why!

Tuia 250 - The story of The Carrot Marmalade

This movie shows how the Cook on The Endeavour realised the sailors were dying of scurvy, which is a  lack of vitamin C due to having no fresh vegetables and fruit. The Cook decided to get vitamin C into the sailors by making Carrot Marmalade. But how did a jar of Carrot marmalade end up in the Auckand museum 250 years later...?

Tuia 250 - telling the story of the object from The Endeavour

As part of our Tuia 250 (School Kit) We have been looking at the different perspectives of the first encounter between Māori and Pakeha. We were given 16 objects that could have been from The Endeavour and could be part of a museum exhibition about this time.

We have created stories for the objects that are linked to different people from the encounter and explain how these items could have ended up in the museum 250 years later.

We researched the item and what it was used for 250 years ago, then used our imaginations to create the story.

This is us in the process...

Genius Hour

Genius Hour!!!

This is an opportunity for us all to learn about whatever we are passionate about, we get a block a week to research, create and present our learning on the subject that we choose.

This always seems quite easy at the start but we often find it is much more challenging than we expected.

We want our projects to be perfect, but we learn so much more through making mistakes, feeling challenged, trying to find solutions and learning to think in different ways.

There are some amazing projects under way
Making a cat house

Learning about the Victorian Era

Learning about gymnastics

Making a model helicopter

Tuia 250 (School Kit project)

This term we have been looking at the 'School Kit Tuia 250' inquiry. It tells the story of the first meeting between Māori and Pakeha when Captain Cook and his crew arrived on the Endeavor. We often hear the story about Captain Cook but not so often from any other perspective. We started out by thinking about what 'perspective' means and how every person has their own perspective on a story. Whaea Kat and Edie pretended that Whaea Kat had stolen food from Edie's lunch box and then asked us all to tell what we had seen, we realised that we all had different perspectives, some of us saw Whaea Kat go into Edie's room and come back with food, some of us saw Whaea Kat come into Room 9 and take some food, some of us just heard about it from other people, and others had no idea anything had happened. We created Google drawings to show what happened from our own perspectives.

Choose your own adventure - Kea hub writing

As part of learning about narrative writing we wrote 'Choose your own adventure stories'.
We learnt about: Setting the scene, creating rising action, climax of the story, falling action and resolution. We also had to think of multiple endings for the different story options and learn to use Google slides to create the stories. This takes a lot of time and can get quite complicated. We hope you enjoy our stories.
