Tūrangawaewae research.

During our visual art and oral language we noticed that the Kea Hub learners has lots of wondered about the history of our school gateway.

This began our Hub's inquiry of "What lies beneath our feet?" and "Who walked here before us?" the history of our place.

In groups, our learners formed questions they wanted to investigate. They then had to decide how to create and share what they learned with other.

We hit a few road blocks... sometimes the answers you want take longer to find out than the timeframe, or you discover noone knows the answers.

In the end all groups learned something new and were able to create and share this learning in their own way.

The kaiako also learned that all the learners need to work on their paraphrasing skills!

Harvest festival

For Harvest festival this year Kea Hub prepared 'make-your-own' salads. We collected and harvested as many herbs and vegetables as we could find in the kitchen garden and at home.
We had lettuce, zucchini, kale, cabbage, spinach, fennel, chilli, capsicum, cucumber, mint, oregano, basil with lemon and lime juice.

We sorted, cut, ripped, grated and squeezed!

We then served it all up to 150 or more Kauri kids. They all walked through and made their own salads. The chilli and cucumber were very popular. We got to topped it all with a salsa, guacamole or pesto, followed by Tui Hub's cobbler and fresh fruit.
Yum!

Get NZ Writing Kit

Some of the writers in Kea Hub have been working on the Get NZ Writing Kit, where we write poems, find out fun facts and share them with another class in Aotearoa.
One of the activities was to learn what a metaphor was, then write some for Kea Hub then individual ones.

A metaphor is a literary term that compares two unlike objects to one another. A metaphor does not use like or as. In a metaphor one thing is said to be another.
eg. The lake is a mirror.
