Genius hour presentation day - end term 3
At the end of term 3 we completed our Genus Hour presentations and presented them to the Kauri team.
It was quite nerve wracking to have to show people all our work and answer questions about our projects but we felt very proud of ourselves.
We also discovered that things can go wrong on the day, and we have to adapt and be resilient.
Thanks for coming Tui Hub! Please leave some comments about what you thought if you have the time.

Tuia 250 - Interview with the characters
For tuhituhi (writing) we have been writing scripts for a television news item. Our news reporters interviewed characters from the Tuia 250 story to get each person's perspective on what happened when Māori and Pakeha first crossed paths.
This is Daya interviewing Otirinui (Mariko) about what happened on the day he got shot by a member of Captain Cook's crew. It has been interesting to think about the different perspectives of what happened on that day, and why!
Tuia 250 - The story of The Carrot Marmalade
This movie shows how the Cook on The Endeavour realised the sailors were dying of scurvy, which is a lack of vitamin C due to having no fresh vegetables and fruit. The Cook decided to get vitamin C into the sailors by making Carrot Marmalade. But how did a jar of Carrot marmalade end up in the Auckand museum 250 years later...?
Tuia 250 - telling the story of the object from The Endeavour
As part of our Tuia 250 (School Kit) We have been looking at the different perspectives of the first encounter between Māori and Pakeha. We were given 16 objects that could have been from The Endeavour and could be part of a museum exhibition about this time.
We have created stories for the objects that are linked to different people from the encounter and explain how these items could have ended up in the museum 250 years later.
We researched the item and what it was used for 250 years ago, then used our imaginations to create the story.
This is us in the process...

Genius Hour
Genius Hour!!!
This always seems quite easy at the start but we often find it is much more challenging than we expected.
We want our projects to be perfect, but we learn so much more through making mistakes, feeling challenged, trying to find solutions and learning to think in different ways.
There are some amazing projects under way
Making a cat house |
Learning about the Victorian Era |
Learning about gymnastics |
Making a model helicopter |

Using clay to make a model character |
Making a vending machine |
Making a VR viewer
