Mother's day Baking

Thursday 9th of May, we (room 9) were lucky to have some university students come and help us bake yummy chocolate chip cookies and make lovely mother's day cards. It was an exciting experience for all of us. We got our hands dirty, did lots of measuring, mixing, stirring and cookie cutting! It was lots of fun, the room was filled with lots of laughter and smiles.

                              .         .

Once the cookies were golden brown, we let them cool down while the smell of fresh baking filled the air.  We then wrapped our baking in bright coloured paper, tying them with a beautiful silky satin ribbon.  We also showed off our artistic side by making a perfect mother's day card to place alongside the yummy cookies.

International Star Wars Day

On Friday 3rd May, Kea Hub thought it would be appropriate to recognise International Star Wars Day.

We did this through poetry, art and digital technology.

We wrote poems, some are in the slides.
We used Google Drawing to create an image, we used the magnifying option to enlarge the image so we could add detail.
We added links so you can see where we got our ideas from and to acknowledge the source.
We added music and video to make our presentation even more exciting!

We'd also like to acknowledge Peter William Mayhew who died just a few days before the official Star Wards Day.
Peter William Mayhew (19 May 1944 – 30 April 2019) was an English-American actor, best known for portraying Chewbacca in the Star Wars film series. He played the character in all of his live-action appearances from the 1977 original to 2015's The Force Awakens before his retirement from the role.

Last Day of Term 1, 2019

We discovered that there's a new craze on the internet. It's called the Triangle Dance Challenge.

Kea Hub thought it would be a great dance to practice for fitness on the last day of term. We put a movie together for your enjoyment and here is a link to give you instructions on how to learn it too!

Enjoy! And don't forget to leave us a comment.

Hamilton East School - Learn, Create and Share

Drought in NZ

In Kea Hub we have been learning about Learn, Create, Share. This is when we learn something new, create something about out new learning, then sharing it with an audience.

Some students have shown this through the topic of 'Drought'. We chose this topic because the rainfall in NZ has been so low over the last few months and areas of the country are in drought.

School Kit Poetry

School kit delivered our class, a fantastic box of activities to help us to write great poetry. We split into our 2 classes to write two different colour poems. We each had a strip of paper that we had to write one sentence that used the chosen colour. We laid them out on a table and room 8 rearranged the room 9 poem and vice versa. There were lots of interesting discussions on how we should group our sentences. This is what we came up with.

Green/Kakariki Poem by Room 8

The shiny, green grass shimmers in my eyes like the hot sun.
When the bright sun shines over, the ferns are as green as they get.
Prickly but soft grass bursting green out at me.
The green grass is as green as it can be.
The green crunchy and sour apple tastes like slimy shiny grass.
Green is the colour of the baby seedling about to sprout.
Green is the colour of the long flax bush.
The brightly coloured fish brushes against the swaying green seaweed.
I see a green slimy frog dancing on a lilypad.
I lie in a lush kakariki field.
The colour green is like a million beautiful little leaves on a big tree.
Lush green tree in spring swinging in the cool breeze.
As I look out the window I see green tall grass swaying in the wind.
Kakariki is like a vegetable smoothie.
Green is the colour of maze up and down sideways and making me go crazy.
A slimy slippery green yucky frog eating seaweed.
The smiley green frog hides between the bright kakariki grass.
Green can be the smell of stinky trash.
Green is the colour of a stinky smelly garbage truck.
Blahhh!! Green colour of gross stuff like vomit (sometimes yellow) and mould and algae, oh and the Grinch.
Green is like vomit on the floor.
Green is as moody as the Grinch.

Yellow/Kowhai Poem by Room 9

Winnie the Pooh’s brilliantly, yellow fur waved as he walked through a patch of glorious, yellow buttercups under the shining, yellow sun.
As bright as a kowhai rubber duck.
Yellow is like yellow fluffy ducklings waddling in the sparkling yellow sun.
Yellow is like a rubber duck bobbing in the water.
Yellow like a lion in the desert with the screaming sun and light prickly sand.
Yellow is sun shiny, sun with fun, fun, fun.
Yellow is bees getting flowers all by the trees.
Big, yellow, buzzy bees in the breathing wind.
Daisies in the day right by the yellow sun.
Yellow floating flowers by the sun.
Yellow is a flower in my beautiful shiny long hair.
Yellow is like a flower.
Yellow is the colour of delicate, gold, glinting in the blinding yellow sun.
Yellow is the colour of burning bright flames.
When I lie on the soft grass and I open my eyes I see the yellow shimmering sun.
Some of yellow, shining, gold glistening in my chain.
Autumn is as yellow as the bright sun!
Kowhai is bright like a beautiful, daffodil, gleaming in the sky.
Yellow is like sunny daffodils.
My mum plants a beaming daffodil in a bright yellow pot.
The bright, yellow, tall sunflower looks towards the shining yellow sun.
Yellow is a beyblade and minecraft.
Yellow is the colour of summer and spring as well.
The sand is golden yellow when it is gleaming in the sun.
Yellow is like sand shimmering in the flaming sun.
Kowhai is the colour of annoying, amazing Spongebob.
Yellow is like dead fish brains.
Yellow salty chips go crunch, crunch in my mouth.
The sharp blade on the knife slicing through the yellow lemon.
Yellow like sparkling lemonade in the hot burning sun.
Kowhai is the colour of soft, moist banana cake.
When I go and get a banana, it’s so yellow.
The glorious yellow butter melts through the sun.
